The most important thing when fishing mainly for Yamame and Iwana in Japan is that the rod must be flexible.

A rod designed with the idea of "just making it go farther" is useless. Rods designed with this in mind are useless.

A soft rod that can cope with the rolling and head-shaking of Yamame using a thin tippet is essential.

Line control after casting. A soft rod also contributes to mending.
